Aalsmeer: Historical Gardens is a plant museum devoted to preserving and cultivating original plant stock. There are plants in the garden "descended" from the originals which were popular in Holland centuries ago.

Amsterdam: The Rijksmuseum has an extensive and interesting collection of art and historical artifacts that illustrate Dutch history.

The Resistance Museum concentrates on the Dutch Underground Movement during World War II. It is designed to show how people in Holland lived and fought under Nazi occupation.

Willet-Holthuysen Museum is a 17th century canal house left to the City of Amsterdam and still furnished as in the time of its last owner.

The Van Gogh Museum has a large collection of this Dutch artist’s works.

AmsteIkring Museum in the Red Light District of Amsterdam is in a 17th century canal house especially redesigned at the time to house a clandestine church in the attic during one of the few times when people were not allowed to worship openly.

Rembrandt House is the actual home of the famous artist and includes a museum of his work.

Arnhem, known to Americans as the location of the "bridge too far" (there is a movie of the same name).  In World War II, the Allies under British command failed to capture the bridge over the Rhine in an assault called "market garden".  Arnhem now houses an extensive National Heritage Museum, an open-air facility where visitors can inspect original houses showing how the Dutch lived in centuries past.

Delft is where the artist Jan Vermeer lived. It is also where the national hero William of Orange, who led the fight for freedom from Spain, was assassinated. He is entombed in one of two very old cathedrals in the town.  Delft is also where the famous blue and white pottery was developed and manufactured.
