Some Interesting Areas for Walking in Amsterdam
The Amsterdam tourist office website lists several sites and attractions within the city.
Our favorites are:
The Albert Cuypstraat Open-air Market: This is a very large market, three city blocks long, where you can buy a great number and variety of merchandise, including fresh, cured, smoked, and fried fish, poultry and meat, flowers, candy and nuts, olives and other Mediteranean delicacies, fabric, kitchen implements, spices, fruits and vegetables. Dam Square: This is a huge open space where people, pigeons and street performers congregate.
The Jordaan, an early Amsterdam neighborhood in which to walk along canals and look into shop windows.
Rembrandt Plain, another interesting neighborhood with pubs, restaurants, cafes:
Windmills within the city:
Chinatown, where you can get good Chinese food:
The Redlight District, sex shops and brothels with storefront windows in which samples of the house’s offerings are displayed, live. Not our favorite place, but unique.
