Map

Printable map for different sections of the city.

Transportation Transportation within the city is by taxi, metro (subway), bus and tram. We stick to the metro, bus and tram. You can purchase tickets at various places, including the central train station, the metro stations, the tourist office, on trams and busses, and in newsstands and some supermarkets. You also can purchase passes valid for 1 to 3 days. We have found that the most economical way to travel on the public conveyances is to use a strippenkart , which has 15 tickets or "strips". You use up to four at a time, depending on the distance, which is determined by zones. For most rides, two strips are required. The trip from the Gaasparplas campground requires four strips per person. For the metro, you validate the card by inserting the correct number in a slot in a yellow meter at the entrance to the station, which stamps it with the time. You can use the card on other conveyances within an hour of the stamped time. For busses and trams you can have the driver or conductor stamp your card, or use the same kind of meter on board.
